Eat Like a King!

If you've been following my blog you know that Sunday we were on the hunt for Elvis and we found this mural at King Chicken in Beldon, MS.

Well after looking at their menu and from the magnificent odors coming from their smoker, we decided it was time to visit them for lunch.  It's not very far from home but we managed to take the long way to get there on the scooters.  Beautiful day for a ride!  They aren't letting anyone inside because, well you know, effin' COVID.  That was just fine.  Eric went to the window in front and placed our order while I found us a nice spot on the back deck to have our lunch.

Before long we had our meals.  I had a "Junior" Smoked Hamburger with cheese and bacon and Eric had a Smoked Pulled Chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon along with potato wedges and homemade mac & cheese.  The mac & cheese was to die for.  OMG!  Next time (and there will be a next time) I'm just gonna load up on that mac & cheese πŸ˜†

The potato wedges looked tasty, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside just as it should be.

The Smoked Pulled Chicken sandwich was overstuffed with meat and no shortage of goodness.

My burger ... what to say?  First of all it was HOT.  Hand made patty that was by no means "Junior".  Without doubt though this was the messiest burger I have ever eaten.  I should have left the wrapper on it because as soon as I picked it up I was wearing it, hahahahahaha.  But, oh my, so flippin' delish!  Yummy!

I couldn't quite finish it.  Left maybe three or four bites.  Okay so next time (remember, there WILL be a next time) I'll load up on mac and cheese and share a burger with Eric.  Best of both worlds!

Since they didn't let anyone inside we used my water bottle to wash our hands.  Yes, it was that messy that napkins weren't enough.  But, Oh Baby, it was soooooooooo good!  Go here, eat here!!

After lunch we decided to go to Nettleton, MS, a tiny berg south of Tupelo, where we have some property on a small private lake.  We hadn't been there in quite a while and were curious to see what was going on in the hood.  We purchased 3 acres on the lake a few years before we moved to Tupelo with the intent to build our retirement home there.  Well, the hood had changed and didn't have the same appeal to us as houses were being built where we never thought we would see houses.

Anyway, it was a great scoot to the lake all on little county roads.  We did a few miles on a larger highway with the speed limit at 65.  I managed 64 but Eric was having a tough time holding it at 62, lol.  No matter, we weren't on it for long.

When we bought the property there were only a few houses on the lake.  Now, directly across from us is a behemoth house (belongs to the developer).  And apparently he purchased most of the property across the lake from us and divided it into small lots (less than an acre) so we expect there will be a row of houses there eventually.

This is our property on the right with all the trees and brush.  To the left is a new lake house under construction.  Imagine our surprise to find a smaller metal house being built when we were told a house must be at least 2,000 sq. ft. and absolutely no mobile homes or pre-fab buildings.  Hmmmmmm..... guess things have changed a bit.

The view from our property toward the narrow end of the lake.  Also, we were rather upset that all the marsh land at this far end had been destroyed and there are several homes down there.  Too bad because it had quite an eco system going with herons, egrets and whatever else likes to live in a marsh!

View from the new metal house driveway.

View uplake from our property.  When we first bought it was lovely forest as you see below.  But that is rapidly changing. That's okay.  We ended up buying a cute cottage in Tupelo that has the Natchez Trace Parkway literally in our backyard.  Lots of privacy but no lake.  And, since all the new lots are small we are postured well with three 1 acre waterfront lots.  At some point we'll sell to the highest bidder 😏

After our look around we headed home via different roads than our arrival.  Gorgeous fall day, temps in the mid 70's, scarce traffic and fun little scooters!  Life is good πŸŽ‡

Thanks for following along.  I have no idea what our next adventure might be.  Stay tuned!

Cheers,
Cletha

  3. That was our usual drill on Sunday afternoons, ride, relax (always near some body of water), have lunch outside and return. Rain or shine, warm or cold! Those scooters are keeping you busy eh!?

  4. The best burgers/sandwiches usually are so messy that you don't have time to properly savor them.
